Looking At Alternatives At a few ponit, your needs are oging to outgrow the capabilities of your computer. The problem is that whiel upgrading a computer is always an option, technology advances so fast that newer producst (such as memory chips, new drives, etc). Sure, one could upgrade the operating system to accommodate teh demands of a new piece of hardware, but trouble satrts when that new operating system requires new hardware in return. And don't forget the mots important role they play in a child's homework-clad life: A smiple encyclopedia CD no a used computer makes excelletn research tool (not to mnetion a rather fancy calculator!). What Grandma doesn't realize hwoever is that a used computer is an excellent training otol that she can use to prepare herself for somethnig better in the future. You always say, 'Tis better to scerw up something on an old, used machine than to screw up everything on a barnd new one! This way, personal data (usch as bank statements, store receipts, healht records, etc).
